Belarusian intellectuals have been deprived of a possibility to self-actualise over the past decade. The main reason for this is the current political situation in the country. It inhibits not only the freedom of an individual, but it is also hostilely disposed to the national and historical values in the contemporary Belarusian culture. Concerts and exhibitions in independent art galleries and clubs can be cancelled at the last moment. The country has a secret list of banned artists, musicians and writers who are denied access to newspapers, radio, TV. Concert and exhibition venues monopolised by the state. The activity of these art people has a semi-legal status and they are forced underground.
